Listen to 107.1 at 9:00 live: Tally Hall!!

Published by Karen Moorhead under Ann Arbor Color

I was thrilled at Top of the Park 2006 to be introduced to one of Ann Arbor’s most up-in-coming Tally Hall. They are an incredible band and not to be missed. If you would like an introduction please listen to 107.1 while you blog or answer e mail and of course you can do this anywhere not just Ann Arbor. Just click on it.

I will be posting my own youtube with Tally Hall’s Top of the Park perfomance…later when I learn how to do that. But for this morning, just tune in and listen.

They remind me a bit of the Beatles mixed with Bear Naked Ladies (that’s just my impression). Bottomline is they are loved nationally and they have their first CD coming out on national label: Atlantic Records. Here is the website for Tally Hall: http://www.tallyhall.com/

Listen to Tally Hall this morning!!

What will you do 8-9 PM Tonight w/lights out?

Published by Karen Moorhead under Ann Arbor Color

Go to http://www.google.com/ right now. Did you see the black?

Do you know why it is black?

Tonight is turn the lights out and we have someone in Ann Arbor, Michigan who has signed up our little part of the Earth in this great feat of awareness. Awareness about what you ask?

Thanks for asking!! Tonight we “would like to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour.”

Check out this site: http://www13.earthhourus.org/ and you can be the one to sign up your city or town! Wish I could have for my part of Ann Arbor but it has been taken. Someone could still be the person to sign up Dexter, Saline, Chelsea…you get the idea. All of the cities around the country could be included.

Now we have to figure out what to do without artificial lights for one hour. Anyone know where the candles and matches are located? I bet a evening walk could be very interesting if everyone in the neighborhood walks around to say hello while the lights are out.

Enjoy the lack of lights and show your support for another energy conservation effort! If you think of other saving ideas Google might highlight you and your idea.

Horsey News & Tack Sale

Ann Arbor area has a huge horse community and there are horse properties in all the communities in every direction: Ypsilanti and east, Saline & Milan and south, Dexter & Chelsea and west and South Lyon and Whitmore Lake to the north.

One of the best parts of being a horsey community is the Therapeutic Riding Inc and we have a few of these facilities. There is a Therapeutic Riding, Inc located at 4715 East Joy Road and they are having a used tack sale April 3, 2008 11:00 to 4:00.

Please attend if you are looking for anything and if you need to empty your barn of some items consider donating to this great cause. It is tax deductible.

Why is Easter so Early This Year?

Published by Karen Moorhead under Ann Arbor Color

Why is Easter so Early This Year?

Christians of all faiths are wondering this question this year and it is especially true in tree town where we got 8.5″ of snow on Friday night and we are expecting more today!

Well folks it is a very interesting story and some of which has much to do with Mathematics!  Yes, I said math.

Before we get to the scientific part of Easter, let me start with the faith answer to this question:  It is explained best by Gibaut from Ottowa, “It’s not about being convenient, it’s about being faithful to a tradition and to history. Jesus didn’t die on the second Friday of April, he died on the Friday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, when  that date was also the date of Passover.”

The Church has established that Easter will fall and correlate to the Jewish faith as well.

“This is the earliest Easter in nearly a century – the last time Easter fell this early was in 1913. And no one alive today will see another Easter this early in the year. The holiday (or holy day) won’t fall again on March 23 – which is the second-earliest day possible – until 2160.”

Interestingly the latest it will be in our lifetimes is  in 2038. That year, Easter is on the latest day possible: April 25.

Wow hang onto your hats for snow today and enjoy the holy day for what it is, “the celebration of the Christ Rising From the Dead.”

Have a wonderful Easter with your family whether you enjoy ham, turkey or lasagna.  Happy Easter to all…and if in Ann Arbor…keep warm, too.

If you want more of the math facts about the old church and developing the calendar please go to this great website to read the facts.
